The Big River Team

Reggie McLeod

Reggie McLeod has written about the Upper Mississippi River since 1980 for countless publications, including USA Today, The Chicago Tribune, Milwaukee Journal, EPA Journal and Our Mississippi. He has served as editor and publisher of Big River Magazine since the first issue, in January 1993. He has lived on or near the river in the Driftless Area since the mid 1970s. He frequently fishes and explores the channels and backwaters from his solo canoe. He lives in Winona, MN.

Sarah Millhouse cut her teeth as a weekly newspaper editor, and her work has appeared in publications across the U.S. She loves writing, but she'd always rather be running. She serves on the board for Big River Voice.

Parker Forsell

Parker Forsell is the founder of Ocooch Mountain and Ramshackle Press. He has been a publisher and editor, farm hand, non-profit organizer, promoter, and booking agent. He is a graduate of UW - La Crosse and Prescott College. He lives in Winona, Minnesota.

Anna Nirva

Anna Nirva is a lifelong graphic designer who thoroughly enjoys working with her Big River Magazine advertising customers. She loves the interesting, friendly team that works hard to publish one amazing issue after another. Anna loves researching and developing the magazine covers. She always reads the News Shorts first!

Mac Cherry

Mac Cherry and his wife live on a few acres in the deep country of Buffalo County outside Alma, Wis.  He's the father of five, an area musician and was the host of the Wisconsin Public Radio show The Big River Radio Wave for twelve years. He's worked for Big River Magazine since 2015 in marketing and advertising.

Lee Hendrix

Lee Hendrix was born in St. Louis, the home state of Sam Clemens, T.S. Eliot, and Tennessee William. Lee was enthralled by the Mississippi at a young age.  In 1972, he boarded his first towboat as a deckhand, slinging mops and lifting heavy rigging.  He achieved his first license in 1976 and piloted tows on the Upper and Lower Mississippi, the Illinois, the Ohio, Cumberland, Missouri, and Tennessee Rivers for several years.

Sarah Joy Wexler-Mann

Sarah Joy Wexler-Mann grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She earned a degree in photography and communications from R.I.T. in Rochester, NY, but Minnesota would always be home. Sarah now lives in rural Houston County where she has spent the past 15 years building a life, connecting with the community, and raising her son, Sebastian.
